PROFILE

Joe is the Supervisor and Senior Associate at Reiss Edwards. He has been practising Immigration Law since 2008 and was admitted as a Solicitor by the SRA on 3 March 2014.

Before entering the legal profession, Joe completed his law degree at King’s College London where he obtained a LLB with Honours in 2006. He also completed his Masters at King’s College London as well as completing the LPC at the College of Law (now known as the University of Law). Joe was the first part-time studies trainee solicitor at Duncan Lewis Solicitors and despite only being a qualified solicitor for less than 9 months, was offered a supervisory position

Joe has advised and represented many High Net Worth clients and companies in applications under the Points Based System. This includes applications concerning Tier 1 Entrepreneur and Investors as well as for Sponsorship Licenses and Tier 2 applications (both General and Intra-Company Transfer). He has represented many clients from the Middle East and Asia.

He has also worked extensively and gained experience in Advocacy (since 2009) and was an Advocate before the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in the Country Guidance case of IM and AI (risks – membership of Beja Tribe, Beja Congress and JEM) Sudan CG [2016] UKUT 00188 (IAC). This case has set laws on how Judges should approach asylum claims for those politically active in Sudan.

He has also challenged the Secretary of State for the Home Department in numerous decisions before the Upper Tribunal or Administrative Court.

Since practising Immigration, Joe has gained extensive knowledge throughout the elements of Immigration Law having worked in various departments including Asylum, Human Rights and Family Immigration. He has been recognised for his advocacy and in the past have received enquiries from barristers who specialise in non-immigration fields to give advice and to assist with applications thereafter.

Joe has also been invited onto panels to discussed immigration issues and for example has discussed the implications on the United Kingdom withdrawing from the European Union with a leading UK trade union. He has also been invited in the past to provide training for other legal institutions as well as providing in-house training to ensure the team at Reiss Edwards are constantly on top of the many changes we face in immigration laws in the United Kingdom today.

Joe prides himself on being honest, open and acting with integrity with everyone he speaks to. He enjoys listening to complicated and technical legal issues and trying to use his extensive immigration knowledge and experience (with particular reference to his advocacy experience) to implement a strategy that is arguable and realistic.

Away from the legal profession, Joe is an avid Arsenal fan and enjoys many different sports.
