More about Joe Thai Duy Dinh

Joe Thai Duy Dinh is the Principal Solicitor and Director at Reiss Edwards. With over 15 years of experience in all aspects of immigration law, he currently oversees the legal team.

Joe has advised and represented many high net worth individuals and companies in applications under the UK Points Based System. This includes applications concerning Tier 1 Entrepreneur, Innovator and Investors as well as for Sponsorship Licence and handling large numbers of work visa applications for international brands.

He has helped many clients from the Middle East and Asia to receive a more favourable outcome on complex cases. Many of which have been won through challenging the decisions of the Secretary of State before the Upper Tribunal or Administrative Court.

He has also worked extensively and gained experience in Advocacy (since 2009) and was an Advocate before the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in the Country Guidance case of IM and AI (risks – membership of Beja Tribe, Beja Congress and JEM) Sudan CG [2016] UKUT 00188 (IAC). This particular case has set laws on how Judges should approach asylum claims for those politically active in Sudan.

Since practising immigration, Joe has gained extensive knowledge throughout the elements of immigration law, having worked in various departments including Asylum, Human Rights and Family Immigration. He is recognised for his advocacy, and often receives enquiries from barristers who specialise in non-immigration fields to give advice and to assist with applications thereafter.

Joe has also been invited onto panels to discussed immigration issues. For example, he has discussed the implications of the United Kingdom withdrawing from the European Union with a leading UK trade union.

As Principal Solicitor, Joe is regularly invited to provide training for other legal institutions, as well as providing in-house training to the legal team at Reiss Edwards. This ensures our immigration solicitors are constantly on top of the many changes we face in immigration laws in the United Kingdom today.

Joe prides himself on being honest, open and acting with integrity with everyone he speaks to. He enjoys listening to complicated and technical legal issues and trying to use his extensive immigration knowledge and experience (with particular reference to his advocacy experience) to implement a strategy that is arguable and realistic.

Prior to his legal profession, Joe completed his law degree at King’s College London, where he obtained an LLB with Honours in 2006. He also completed his Masters at King’s College London as well as completing the LPC at the College of Law (now known as the University of Law). Joe was the first part-time studies trainee solicitor at Duncan Lewis Solicitors and despite only being a qualified solicitor for less than 9 months, was offered a supervisory position.
